In an interview with Corriere della Sera on Sunday, Italian designer Giorgio Armani says he wants to leave the scene in the next two or three years. “I give myself two or three more years at the head of the company. No more,” said the nonagenarian.

Mr. Armani, on the other hand, did not mention the future of his successful brand, which he has run for nearly 50 years, nor the name of a successor. He dreams of a future where he no longer has to make decisions, he confides.

Asked about a possible handover to his current right-hand man, Leo Dell’Orco, Giorgio Armani vaguely replied that he had already put together a clear structure that those who take over from him will be invited to put in place. He further indicated to the Italian daily that he had recently been approached by potential external investors, who were “a little more insistent”. “But currently, I don’t see any opportunity,” he adds.

The fashion industry has been dominated for some time by luxury conglomerates. Giorgio Armani has always refused takeover offers, defending his independence.
