CULTURE. At the age of 17, actor Mathieu Drouin won his very first Gémeaux in his career on Sunday, during the opening gala of the 39th edition.

The Drummondville native took home the award for best supporting role in a female and male role: youth, in connection with his role as Émile in First trio. Mathieu Drouin was alongside Debbie Lynch-White and Stéphane Breton in The pactPierre Simpson in Makinium and Dounia Ouirzane in First trio.

When his name was called out over the microphone, the comedian couldn’t believe his ears. The day after the ceremony, the dust has barely settled.

“It’s still crazy to win a Gémeaux. It’s the biggest Quebec award you can win as an actor. It was just spectacular to have won that at 17 years old with the other members of the team of First trio and my mother. There are no words to describe it. It was quite an experience,” he said in a telephone interview.

On stage, Mathieu Drouin thanked everyone who contributed directly or indirectly to his young career, including the team of First trio.

He also slipped in a few words for his loved ones. “I wanted to thank my parents and my brothers. They support me all the time. I made a special mention to my mother. She made me lifts from Drummondville to Montreal every week, from 8 to 16 years old.”

Once backstage, Mathieu Drouin learned to his great delight that First trio won the Gémeaux prize in the category of best program or series: youth fiction (12 years and under).

“I had just won. I was taking pictures. I was wondering if I should put my trophy down and go race. I didn’t really have time. Afterwards, I had time to take pictures with them. It was a great team accomplishment,” he said.

Let us recall that the Drummondville native has participated in several television projects, including The Escape, Indefensible, Olive, Elsewhere or else Victor Lessard.

The series First trio represents a major achievement, as he plays the main character’s best friend. “I must have done a hundred days of filming, if not more. It was the first time I had filmed with young people my age. It’s been a really great experience so far.”

The man who is currently studying humanities at Cégep de Drummondville is currently participating in the filming of the third season of the popular show.

What is his mindset for the future? “It’s important for me to continue to have fun and stay humble,” he replies.

It is possible to see Mathieu Drouin in the second season of First trio, currently airing on Radio-Canada. It also appears in the series Separate society on Club illico. The actor also landed a role in the new series by director Podz, entitled The collection.

Drummondville well represented at the Gémeaux

Drummondville was well represented at the Gémeaux, with artists from the region winning awards. This is the case for Steve Laplante who received the Gémeaux for best supporting role in a male comedy or dramatic comedy with Inhale exhale.

Actor Lelouis Courchesne won the award for best performance: humor with his colleagues Benoît Brière, Julien Corriveau, Virginie Fortin, Anas Hassouna, Patrick Huard, Daphné Létourneau, Katherine Levac, Marie Eve Morency, Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais, Richardson Zéphir and Arnaud Soly, from the third season of Club Soly.

Louis Morissette’s production company, KOTV, also got its hands on a few Geminis.
