Dutchman Bram Peters will be appointed coach of the Belgian Tornados, taking over from Jacques Borlée at the head of the Belgian 4X400m relay, BELGA Agency has learned, confirming information reported by Le Soir on Tuesday morning.
An agreement has been reached between the French-speaking and Dutch-speaking wings of the athletics federation in view of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Bram Peters was appointed by the Dutch-speaking athletics wing before the Paris Olympic Games, sparking a lively controversy among the Belgian Tornados in full Olympic preparation. He will be the coach of the Belgian Tornados assisted by Carole Bam who keeps in charge of the Belgian Cheetahs the women’s 4X400m relay, following a new structure with a coach and his assistant.
François Gourmet will be the mentor of the 4X100m relay. The former decathlete takes over the role from Rudi Diels who has also decided to withdraw from the Belgian Rockets, the women’s 4X100m relay.
François Gourmet is the coach of Julien Watrin, Robin Vanderbemden and Marine Jehaes and will instead be in charge of the Belgian Rockets. He will be supported by Lieve Van Mechelen who will remain in her role as coach of the Belgian Falcons, the men’s 4X100m relay.
