Saturday September 7, Arian Greva, Chairman and CEO of Filix SAS, and Etienne Moreau, director of the Filix factory in Condé-sur-Noireau (Calvados) opened the doors of their company, which was celebrating its 90th anniversary.
Factory tour
From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., guided tours of the company were organized to explain the different stages of production. Jean-Marie Grandin, head of production, and in the company since 1989, commented on the visits throughout this morning.
The employees invited their relatives to come and visit their factory. The company’s retirees were also invited.
Valérie Desquesne, mayor of Condé-en-Normandie, and former MP Freddy Sertin also joined the event.
Diversified production
The specificity of the Filix factory is “the production of threads as thin as a hair in all markets: yarns for medical, technical yarns, yarns with synthetic, yarns with cotton fiber and a large current demand for yarn with linen fiber, which represents a large market” describes Jean-Marie Grandin. The company produces 35,000 tons of thread per year.
Visitors were able to discover the different stages of production and the machines in this factory which has 105 employees on a surface area of 18,000 m² with numerous rooms specific to the yarns produced or the production stages: covering, winding.
Discovery of the production tool
Robust equipment from another generation sits alongside new machines, such as those installed in 2021, which benefited from the France Relance plan, in favor of industry: “They were designed to improve working conditions of the guiper ” explains the production manager.
The machines operate 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, “since some threads, such as those used to produce tights, require 20 days of work,” emphasizes Jean-Marie Grandin.
The strength of Filix
Present on all markets, “Filix does not specialize in one type of wire like most of our competitors, and that is what makes us strong,” emphasizes Jean-Marie Grandin.
“We do not manufacture the raw material and compared to Chinese competitors, we will be able to manufacture specific colours for our big German client, who produces socks.”
The company manufactures a huge amount of yarn. with lycra, which are found in all clothing, or “elastic threads with certain specific mechanical characteristics, which correspond to a need” which will be different if it is used to produce socks or underwear.
Festive afternoon
An exhibition room at the end of the visit allowed visitors to discover the range of products made with the Filix factory’s spools of wire.
The anniversary then continued internally with the employees at the Château de Pontécoulant with a meal and numerous activities.
