The number of crypto ATMs has increased from 6,419 on January 1, 2020 to 38,776 by September 2, 2024. This represents an increase of more than 500% in four years.

38,776. This is the number of ATMs available worldwide, which allow you to buy or sell bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies. Since January 1, 2020, its number has increased by 504.08%. According to Coin ATM Radar, which lists the total number of crypto ATMs, these machines are available in 69 countries.

Almost all machines in the world dispense bitcoin (38,766 machines support bitcoin), but only 21,255 machines dispense litecoin and 20,909 dispense ether.

The United States in the lead

The country would have 31,900 crypto ATMs today. This represents 82.3% of the total number of machines. In detail, 31,895 ATMs allow you to withdraw bitcoin, 15,950 litecoin or 15,358 ether. Many states have crypto ATMs and especially bitcoin: This is the case in Florida in particular.which totals 2,970. Most of them are located in Miami and Tampa. In second place comes the state of California with 2,889 crypto ATMs. The city of Los Angeles would have 1,865 and San Francisco, 408.

Canada 2nd, sign of America’s power

In second place, Canada also benefits from a large number of bitcoin ATMs. In total, 3,092 machines are installed on Canadian soil. And it is Toronto, one of the most important global financial centers at present, which has the most cryptocurrency ATMs. 1,056 machines are installed in the city. Montreal and Vancouver come behind with 289 and 220 cryptocurrency ATMs respectively. With Canada and the United States, North America would concentrate more than 91% of crypto ATMs in the world.

Australia on the podium

Australia ranks third with nearly 1,200 ATMs, up from just 73 two years ago. A sign of rapid growth, the number of ATMs has multiplied significantly over the past two years. While the country had (only) 39 bitcoin ATMs on January 1, 2019, Australia now has 1,164 as of September 2. This represents an increase of 2,884.62%.

And in France?

Only six bitcoin ATMs are said to be available in France. One in Paris, one in Lille, one in Dijon, one in Marseille and two in Lyon. A sign of still weak development, France is at the same level as other countries such as Kosovo or Peru.

Far from America, the total number of machines would reach 1,597 in Europe, 30,000 fewer machines than in the United States.

Especially since NCR Atleos, which makes ATMs in the United States, announced that it would deploy 30,000 additional ATMs to convert its “bitcoin to cash” to allow its customers to sell their bitcoins for dollars in more than 30 American states. This could continue to encourage the development of bitcoin ATMs in the United States and therefore continue to keep the country in the lead.
