When signing the first decrees of his second term in the White House, the president indicated that he could impose tariffs on Canada as early as February 1.

The survey conducted among 1,001 Americans between January 17 and 19 indicates that 53% of respondents oppose this measure, while only 29% are in favor.

A proportion of 67% believe that tariffs of 25% imposed in Canada would have the effect of increasing the price of goods and services.

The Léger firm also surveyed Americans about other measures put forward by Donald Trump affecting Canada.

In fact, only 24% of people surveyed would be in favor of the annexation of Canada to the United States.

Some 22% believe the president when he says that the United States subsidizes Canada to the tune of $200 billion while 36% say they don’t believe him and 42% don’t know.

Also, 38% of respondents say they are happy with the return of Donald Trump to the White House while 36% say they are unhappy, and 26% are neutral.
