The 2025 tax year has already started, and with it, many important deadlines for French households. Automatic debits, income declaration, rate adjustments or even regularizations: these essential steps require rigorous organization. Through this guide, discover the main dates not to be missed, based on the data available to date, in order to effectively plan your tax obligations.
January to March: launch of the fiscal year and first deadlines
The month of January marks the start of the tax year with withholding taxes for all monthly taxpayers. From January 15the first deductions apply for property income, alimony and self-employed income. These deductions, made directly from bank accounts or via pay slips, constitute a key step for workers and self-employed taxpayers.
At the same time, approximately 9 million tax households will receive a advance on tax credits and reductions to which they are entitled. These payments concern expenses linked to the employment of an employee at home, childcare costs or even energy renovation work (via schemes such as MaPrimeRénov'). This advance corresponds to 60% of the estimated amounts, the remaining 40% being adjusted based on tax returns filed in the spring.. For taxpayers wishing to avoid a single payment of local taxes such as property tax, the monthly payment option remains open. Requests must be made via the site impots.gouv.fr before the June 30, 2025allowing payments to be distributed over several months.
April to July: declaration season
The arrival of spring means for the French the start of the income declaration campaign. At the beginning of April 2025, paper forms will be sent to households who request them. A few days later, the online portal will be open, allowing all taxpayers to enter their income received in 2024.
It is essential to respect the deadlines specific to each type of declaration:
- May 20, 2025 : Deadline for submitting paper declarations.
- June 2025 : Online filers will have deadlines spread out depending on their department of residence, with dates extending until the beginning of June.
Filing is also the time to update your tax information, including adjusting your withholding tax rate to anticipate variations in income or family changes. The month of July is marked by tax credit adjustments. If the amount advanced in January was insufficient, the 40% remaining will be paid. Conversely, an overpayment will give rise to a request for reimbursement. This period is also suitable for processing tax regularizations for households having paid amounts higher than their actual tax. Finally, taxpayers who have made errors or omissions in their declaration will be able to benefit from the online correction serviceaccessible from mid-July.
September to December: the end of the fiscal year
From September 1, 2025the new withholding tax rate, calculated on the basis of income declared in the spring, will be applied. This new rate reflects changes in the personal and professional situations of taxpayers.
For taxpayers with a balance to pay on their income tax, the deadline is set at September 15, 2025. However, an online payment allows you to benefit from an additional period until September 20. If the amount to be paid exceeds 300 eurosa spread over four samples is proposed, starting from September 25.
Property and housing taxes
Autumn is also synonymous with payments for local taxes:
- October 15, 2025 : Deadline for paying property tax.
- December 15, 2025 : Deadline for the housing tax, which still affects certain households despite its gradual elimination. Online payments offer an additional five days for these taxes.
The Real Estate Wealth Tax (IFI)
Households subject to the IFI will have to make their payments before November 17, 2025with an extension up to November 22 for online payments.
