In order to balance electricity production, reactor no. 2 was shut down this Sunday morning.

This morning, January 5, 2025 at 7:45 a.m., teams from the EDF Golfech nuclear power plant shut down production unit no. 2. This shutdown, requested by the manager of the national electricity network, makes it possible to balance electricity production and consumption.

Production unit No. 1 remains in operation and supplies the national electricity network.

On several occasions in 2024, the Golfech power plant carried out such production shutdowns, on one of its reactors, to adapt, like other nuclear production sites in the country, to low occasional demand for electricity. This was particularly the case last summer when this same unit n.2 was arrested for three weeks. Production unit no.2 celebrated its 30th anniversary last year since it was commissioned in 1994, three years after the industrial commissioning of unit no.1. In 2025, this reactor n.2 will undergo its third ten-year inspection.
