Eric Avery, Stephen Perkins and Dave Navarro collaborate again to create music, leaving the mystery surrounding singer Perry Farrell’s involvement.

A trio in the studio, but without Perry Farrell

Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery has confirmed that he is currently working on new material with drummer Stephen Perkins and guitarist Dave Navarro. However, his Instagram announcement made no mention of singer Perry Farrell, leading to speculation that he may not be involved in this project.

In his post, Avery shared a video of himself recording bass lines, along with the message: “Writing new lines to some of Stephen’s drum tracks. Looking forward to adding some Navarro on this. 2025!”

This announcement comes just months after an onstage incident in September 2024, where Farrell attempted to assault Navarro during a concert in Boston. This public altercation led to the cancellation of the remaining North American tour and an official hiatus of the band.

Tensions within the group

After the incident, Navarro, Perkins and Avery issued a joint statement discussing “Repeated behavioral problems and mental health difficulties for singer Perry Farrell”. They expressed their sadness over this situation and their concern for Farrell’s well-being.

Farrell publicly apologized, taking responsibility for his actions and describing this event as his “breaking point”. Despite these apologies, the band decided to take a step back by canceling the remaining concerts.
