Since January 1, 2025, the use of meal vouchers has been limited to directly consumable products. From now on, non-refrigerated products or unprocessed meat and fish are no longer eligible for meal vouchers.
The exemption allowing the use of restaurant vouchers for shopping was to be effective until 2026. Due to censorship by the government led by Michel Barnier at the beginning of December, it could not be extended. Certain products can no longer be paid for by meal vouchers in supermarkets… and the list is quite large! So it's time to get up to speed to avoid unpleasant surprises at the checkout.
Only immediately consumable products can be purchased with meal vouchers, always with the limit of 25 euros per day excluding Sundays and public holidays, since January 1, 2025. So, forget about non-refrigerated products (excluding drinks) like pasta. , rice, flour, oil, pastries, all products sold in the grocery section, as well as alcohol. Non-food products are obviously not eligible for this payment method either.
Soon a law allowing the extension of the exemption?
But that's not all! Among refrigerated products, ice creams and sorbets are no longer eligible. This is also the case for unprocessed meats and fish. This is for example the case for ham, bacon, salami, smoked salmon and trout as well as certain sausages.
Conversely, sandwiches, mixed salads, prepared meals, yogurts and dairy desserts, non-alcoholic drinks, and even fresh processed fish or cold meats can always be paid for using your meal vouchers. .
Other good news: a debate in the Senate should take place on January 15 to further change the situation in the coming months. The upper house included on its agenda for January 15 the bill aimed at extending the exemption. However, the agenda is only provisional.
