At the start of each year, we make resolutions that we often abandon after a few weeks or months. The Quebec Federation of Hunters and Fishermen has suggested a resolution that it says will not go away easily.

She offers hunting and fishing enthusiasts to make things happen for their passion in 2025. She suggests a real resolution which she believes will really matter: becoming an active defender of the rights of hunters and fishermen in Quebec, by joining its ranks.

“We are here to represent hunters and fishermen. All we do for a year is to defend the interests of fans in very big issues, explains general manager Marc Renaud. Examples include access to bodies of water or even the entire regulation of hunting and fishing. Our organization has always aimed to offer the best to hunters and fishermen, for the practice of their activities.

For him, access to bodies of water is one of the big issues that we must not let go of. “We always maintain that Quebec’s bodies of water belong to everyone. It is a collective good. You absolutely must be able to access it. It is not the government that is blocking it, but rather the municipalities and the MRCs which are making regulations preventing access to several bodies of water for non-residents. However, we are all Quebec residents, regardless of where we live.”

For the DG, many people seem to forget the economic contribution of fishermen who own a fishing boat. “In this case, to get into the water, you need a trailer, a towing vehicle, gasoline, fishing lures and more. With the imposing costs required to launch a boat in several locations, our member associations no longer know where to go to hold their events. We are trying to block access to several lakes, because people want to keep the body of water for themselves. They will often use the file of invasive species that could contaminate their lakes. In this regard, fishermen are ready to make the necessary efforts to eliminate the problem.”

A WHOLE TEAM

THE CEO likes to talk about the strength that the entire federation team represents, with the associations and individual members.

“In the firearms file, we managed to obtain corrections, changes to certain amendments and more. All of this was made possible thanks to our member associations and several individual members. We need all the support available in order to be able to defend the rights of hunters and fishermen before government authorities, whether provincial, federal or municipal.”

Currently, the federation has an important structure that has ramifications throughout Quebec.

“We have 220 member associations which bring together around 125,000 members. We also have individual members who support our cause. There are almost 5,000 of them. We can also count on community groups who carry out activities for the next generation, ZECS who support us, given that they will always need hunters and fishermen.”

Remember that the federation remains closely on the lookout for any changes that there may be in the matter of big game hunting, without forgetting the management plans for lake trout, salmon and even striped bass.

“We need the support of all our members on the various issues. It comforts us and makes us stronger and more representative of the entire community of hunters and fishermen. This support could be even stronger if other people joined us, whether as an individual member or by becoming members of a hunting and fishing association in their part of the country. Coming together means sharing knowledge, knowledge and leisure activities, which makes us even stronger.”
