Vodafone + Fastweb: Swisscom and Italy.

After obtaining the green light from all regulatory authorizations in Italy, Swisscom announced the acquisition of Vodafone Italy for 8 billion euros, as announced. Given this acquisition completed at the end of 2024, the operator has modified its forecasts for the group.

The transaction finalized on December 31 marks a turning point for the Italian telecoms market. This merger will generate significant synergies estimated at 600 million euros while combining Fastweb’s fixed-line customer base with Vodafone Italia’s mobile experience.

A new era for Italian telecoms?

Walter Renna, who takes the reins of the new entity Fastweb + Vodafone, has clear ambitions for the Italian market. The new group intends to play a leading role in the country’s digital transformation, serving both individuals and businesses, according to a press release. To have.

Christoph Aeschlimann, CEO of Swisscom, underlines that this strategic operation will significantly strengthen the group’s position while maintaining its commitments to the Swiss market. This acquisition promises to increase cash flow and future dividends, without compromising investments in innovation in Switzerland. Let’s hope so.

Gradual integration

The new structure will retain the existing Fastweb and Vodafone commercial brands, operating under the joint Fastweb + Vodafone banner. A new executive committee has been formed, bringing together experienced leaders from both companies, with some key positions still to be filled in the IT and technology areas.

Financial forecasts for 2024 have been adjusted, with EBITDA now expected to be between 4.3 and 4.4 billion Swiss francs, down from previous estimates. This revision is explained in particular by integration costs of up to 200 million euros, linked to the migration of Fastweb’s mobile customers to the Vodafone Italia network.
