What about the remaining 2,800 m²? Taken over by E.Leclerc also for something else, sale to a third party, retained by Casino? “We did not have answers to the fifty questions we asked, because the manager of E.Leclerc de Gouesnou was not able to come,” regrets Magali Charnacé, Unsa union representative, who specifies that he “promised to be present at the next central CSE, scheduled for mid-January 2025”.
“We remain hungry”
The unions hope to obtain more answers, particularly on employment. The layoff letters expected since the store closed on September 30, 2024 have not gone away. “Will all 97 employees be taken over? We don't know. Some colleagues were due to start training last week. But they couldn't do it: there is no more funding for the moment because there is no PSE (employment protection plan, Editor's note),” reveals the elected official.
Other Casino employees in Brest have since found other work. “They will have to choose: stay in their new job (and therefore resign from Casino) or come back to work for the buyer,” estimates Magali Charnacé, who is also worried about the risks to the morale of her colleagues. “We've been being pushed around for eighteen months. One day it's no, the other it's yes. We went through all the emotions. And there we remain hungry,” she recalls. “At the end of this meeting, we are mixed,” summarizes Jean-Michel Haguet, also representing Unsa.
No opinion from the unions as it stands
It remains to be seen whether the project will succeed. The CSE is required to make a decision on this subject. “As it stands, we won’t do it. We don't have enough information. Casino management would undoubtedly like us to do it fairly quickly, but we want to wait until we have answers to our many questions first,” insist the two Unsa representatives.
