The Sora video generation tool is available to all of its users except Europe. Here's how to work around the problem.
This is a watershed moment for the artificial intelligence industry. ChatGPT has just rolled out a new feature eagerly awaited by Internet users, and it could well mark a new step in the world of technology.
With its new device called Sora, ChatGPT now makes it possible to generate video from simple textual descriptions. Despite the enthusiasm caused by this recent update, it is currently impossible to benefit from it in Europe.
Sora, a great success that encounters some difficulties
Since its launch at the beginning of the week, ChatGPT's new gadget continues to attract followers. It is worth highlighting his ability to understand prompts, his speed in generating content as well as the undeniable realism of his videos. Internet users had fun designing many projects, each one more eccentric than the last, with success.
The video above, published on X by Marques Brownlee, is in no way a television news program but a 100% artificial intelligence production. If a few clues betray the involvement of AI, the result is truly astonishing.
Despite these strengths, some weaknesses remain at ChatGPT. Sora still struggles to conceive complex gestures and sometimes allows physically impossible movements to appear.
Each video generated by Sora has a watermark, visible at the bottom right, to identify AI videos. In addition to this signature, OpenAI prohibits sensitive content, including depictions of famous people. Initiatives that guarantee a certain security and prevent any attempt at disinformation.
Possibilities that differ depending on the subscriptions
The range of possibilities is not the same depending on the various subscriptions offered by OpenAI. The American company provides two plans, with different functionalities and prices.
- ChatGPT Plus subscription: €20/month, capacity for 50 videos in 720p of 5 seconds every month.
- Subscription ChatGPT Pro: 200€/month, capacity of 500 videos in 1080p of 20 seconds every month.
While ChatGPT Plus subscribers receive 1000 monthly credits, Pro plan supporters receive 10,000 credits, which allow them greater freedom in video generation. Each month, these credits are renewed and allow users to formulate new requirements.
And Europe in all this?
If Sora presents itself as a promising and revolutionary tool, European users are currently unable to take advantage of it. Wronged, abandoned, they can only note their powerlessness compared to other continents, which are happily benefiting from the latest additions of ChatGPT. Subject to European legislation, they will have to wait a little longer than the others.
A delay that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman deplores on X: “We want to offer our products in Europe and we believe that a strong Europe is important for the whole world. We also need to comply with regulations. I generally expect new products to be launched later in Europe and that some of them simply cannot be offered.”
However, there is a way around European difficulties. Escaping restrictions is possible if you turn to a VPN configured to United States. Once this is done, you will need to log in with your ChatGPT credentials, ensure your majority, subscribe to a Plus or Pro subscription, then watch the introductory tutorial.
Once you have completed these steps, you are free to ask Sora for any ideas that come to mind. Although the interface is exclusively in English, nothing prevents you from formulating your prompts in French. ChatGPT’s original creations are just waiting for you.
