In 2023, the Vaud economy, which traditionally performed slightly above average, was aligned with the Swiss economy, with growth of 1.3% similar to that of GDP nationally. The year 2024 should record a new moderate increase of 1.2% according to projections presented this Wednesday by the Vaud Economic Commission. If no rebound is expected at the end of the year, the outlook is more positive for 2025, with Vaud’s GDP expected at 1.9%, for national growth expected at 1.6%.
“The panorama resembles that which we were already observing in 2023 with slowing global growth. The sharp decline in growth recorded in the euro zone poses a problem for our exporters, but the situation could recover a little next year,” specifies Jean-Pascal Baechler, economic advisor at the Banque cantonale vaudoise. In addition to weak growth on a global scale, export sectors are also suffering from the strengthening of the franc. One euro is currently trading at 0.93 francs, a level it had already reached at the end of 2023, and 1 dollar at 0.88 francs. And this trend could become even more pronounced.
