It's official, Elon Musk is now part of the D.O.G.Ethe American department responsible for optimizing the functioning of government and institutions. His goal? Reduce public spending while continuing to operate the administration, as he was able to do at X (formerly Twitter).
A first measure could be announced shortly by the billionaire boss. Indeed, Elon Musk would like to force American civil servants to stop teleworking and return to offices. By doing so, Musk hopes to annoy some of the workers and push them to resign. A way to make initial savings, by cutting certain salaries, therefore.
Elon Musk announces a first measure
It must be said that in the United States, as everywhere else in the world, teleworking has become widespread since 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, many private companies and administrations have continued to operate in this way, believing that it is a good compromise between flexibility and efficiency. But Musk doesn't really seem to be in favor of it.
Ending these privileges would cut government payroll, and therefore save millions of dollars. However, we do not know what impact this measure could have on the efficiency of American public services. Cut off from part of their workforce, will they succeed in meeting the needs and expectations of citizens, the main stakeholders?
Voices are raised against this first idea
Some voices are already speaking out against this possible measure. The president of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), Everett Kellyin fact recalls that only 10% of civil servants telework and that the vast majority of jobs filled within the administration have never been, are still not and will not be eligible for teleworking.
