The announcement caused noise and damage. On Tuesday November 5, 2024, the Auchan group presented a draft social plan to staff representatives. This plan threatens approximately 2,400 jobs and plans the closure of around ten stores In France.

The Gironde obviously does not escape this social plan. The Auchan stores in Mériadeck and Bordeaux-Lac are impacted. In total, 22 people should be affected by this measure, indicates Salima Lemzeri, CFDT union representative for the Bordeaux north-west living area.

“They are essentially sellers advice on household appliances and telephony. A sales manager and two planning managers are also affected by the social plan. Most of the people concerned are “over 50 years old” and have been “invested in the brand” for several years, specifies the union representative.

Anger, fear and tears

Since this announcement, employees have continued to work in a “tense” atmosphere in the Mériadeck and Bordeaux-Lac stores. “The first days were hard. Some have ups and downs and others break down and cry because they will lose their jobs,” says Salima Lemzeri.

During December, staff representatives will continue negotiations with Auchan management. For now, the dialogue is the watchword.

“We want that in the event of departure, employees are well accompanied et helped to find work.” The social plan should be implemented at the end of the first quarter of 2025.
