SCOTT- The queen of the Hay Spindle celebrated in an elegant and grandiose way the tenth anniversary of her small performance hall in Scott, in Beauce.

Dressed in black, businesswoman Marie-Pierre Simard rolled out the red carpet for her guests on Thursday evening.

“I bought this house dating from 1829 in 2008 when I was 25. I was the manager of bed and breakfast for 8 years with L’Aubergine,” she explains.

In a relationship with Bob Bissonnette in 2014, she admits that the singer played an important role in the birth of Broche à foin, particularly after a trip to San Diego, California.

A major event

“We had seen a Padres game and on our way out of baseball, we stopped at a bar and two guys were doing a Dueling Pianos show. A year before, I celebrated my 30th birthday in my barn, my shed at the back of the house. I wanted to do something there and I was looking,” explains Marie-Pierre.

“My boyfriend told me that’s what I had to do. I said yes for a weekend and then it was ten shows in 2015. After that, life took care of the rest. »

Ten years later, the Dueling Pianos have now performed over 300 performances in Scott’s barn. Some 300,000 people saw the show in this laid-back cabin.

“I have six pianists. The guys don’t live here, but it’s just like it. We do 200 people a night and it’s sold out six months in advance. It’s a great success and our reputation has a lot to do with it.”

Today, the lodge still exists, even if the purpose has changed a little. Staff find refuge there, as well as customers who want accommodation after having a drink.

Since its opening, the Hay Spit has remained a place to build memories and the personality of its owner is closely linked to the success of festive evenings.

“People come back because time stops a little. There are so many smiles and good humor here,” adds the owner.

Need to move forward

Nearly eight years after the death of her then-partner, Marie-Pierre Simard says she is doing well.

In 2019, in the documentary Bob Bissonnette: Rockstar and not nearly,by director Bruno Lachance, the wound still seemed very raw.

“I have the best life in the world. What do you do with a lemon for a living? You can take out the tequila or put some in your eyes. I think about him every day and what he left in my life. I didn’t rebuild my life, I continued it. I move forward so that he can be proud. »

A new documentary on the ten years of Broche à Foin will be available in a few days. Guests were able to attend a preview on Thursday evening.
