Video of violent arrest raises suspicions of police violence

These are images of great violence. Since Wednesday, a video has been circulating on X reporting an arrest that is particularly difficult to watch. Broadcast by an individual presenting himself as a witness to the scene, we see in this video, a member of the police, holding in his hand what appears to be a tear gas canister, sitting astride a civilian, lying on the ground . The scene which takes place in a hall of a building is impressive, particularly due to the quantity of blood present on the spot, both on the walls and on the elevator door which is to the left of the two protagonists.

On social networks, accusations of new police violence are increasing. On her Instagram account, activist Assa Traoré published a post to this effect. She also claims that the events took place in the 19th arrondissement of Paris this Wednesday and that the civilian seen in the video is a man named Bamba aged 32.

FAKE OFF

After checking with the Paris police headquarters, the events took place on Wednesday, June 26 in Paris, 19th arrondissement. According to a police source, the police tried to stop a man riding a scooter without a helmet in order to carry out a check. A second individual, who is the one seen in the video, tried to prevent this check by helping the man on the scooter to escape.

The police officers then allegedly proceeded to check this individual who was allegedly insulting. The latter then allegedly fled and took refuge in the lobby of the building that can be seen in the video. According to the same source, he was followed by the police officer seen in the images who allegedly used his gel spray to subdue him. The arrested person was taken into custody for insulting an officer and rebellion.

Contacted several times by the Fake Off service of 20 Minutes, the author of the video on the arrest, who allegedly witnessed the scene, did not respond to our requests for interviews.
