Making a purchase by tapping your bank card on the terminal for a bill greater than 50 euros: it is now – soon in reality – possible. “Contactless plus” is now being deployed in France while contactless payment is widely used in France. As indicated on the BFMTV site, which relays a study by the Banque de France, 60% of bank card payments were made contactless (+6 points in one year) for an average amount of 16 euros, in 2022.

Contactless payment but…

The fact of paying without typing your “credit card” code left some users skeptical when it was launched. Now, it has become the norm, an extremely common practice, but its new extension will nevertheless be controlled.

If for purchases below 50 euros the 4-digit pin code is not required, it will however be necessary to enter it for payments above. “Sans Contact Plus makes it possible to generalize contactless payment whatever the amount. Payment is therefore faster, with an accelerated checkout and as secure as ever.“, comments the bank card group.

The consumer does not have to do anything to benefit from this new service. Bank cards are designed to make these payments and only the terminals are updated to allow these transactions.

Contactless when it was launched only allowed payments of less than 20 euros, in 2012. After an increase in the ceiling in 2017 to 30 euros then to 50 euros in 2020, it is therefore a new step which is reached in 2024.
