Snowflakes continued to fall in Normandy this Thursday, November 21, causing numerous disruptions, particularly on the region's road networks.
The sub-prefect of Manche Stéphanie Petitjean takes stock with us on the evolution of the snow situation and the repercussions in the Manche department.
Stéphanie Petitjean: “There was 10 cm of snow in places. An episode of hail in the Avranches area complicated the situation on the roads there. Vehicles slipped and found themselves in difficulty, with some material damage.
In the department, at midday, there were 8 accidents and 7 minor injuries.
The police have been mobilized on the ground since yesterday on the main roads to come to the aid of motorists in difficulty. We notice that most people drive at 50km/h on the A84.
Stéphanie Petitjean: “Traffic conditions remain very difficult in the Channel, despite the very strong mobilization of teams on the ground. Motorists must remain very careful, drive slowly and respect safety distances.”
At present (2:30 p.m.), the roads remain usable but with caution. There are no blocking points despite trucks in difficulty on the A84.
We recommend that citizens postpone all unnecessary travel today and tomorrow morning, and stay at home.“.
Stéphanie Petitjean: “Météo France has announced to us that orange vigilance will be maintained at least until noon tomorrow (Friday November 22) in Manche and as in the other departments of Normandy.
A calm is expected in the Channel late this Thursday afternoon. But snow is forecast again overnight with cold and wind. We fear icy conditions and the formation of snow drifts overnight and tomorrow morning. We must therefore remain very careful“.
