This Sunday morning the inhabitants of the Bordeaux region woke up in the dark. Since 8:30 a.m., 120,000 homes have been without electricity.

A failure whose exact causes have not yet been identified, leading the network to shut down safe explained to Agence France-Presse (AFP) a spokesperson for RTE, manager of the high and medium voltage electricity network. “It’s like at home: when we see an incident on our network, it will automatically go into security and behind that can cause outages,” she declared.

RTE announced the end of the incident and the restoration of power supply around 11 a.m. In about half of the affected households, electricity had already been partially restored earlier.

Impact on traffic

Trains departing from Saint-Jean station, located in the center of Bordeaux, are approximately one hour late at least. TGVs are also impacted, and these delays are likely to become longer.

“The signaling has been interrupted. And we can’t run a train if we don’t have signaling.”explained a spokesperson for the railway company, who said it was planning « retards » pour ” flow out “ gradually the traffic.

On its social networks, TMB (Bordeaux metropolis transport network), indicates that tram traffic is also disrupted in the Right Bank district of Bordeaux, Villenave-d’Ornon and Bègles, located to the south of the metropolis.
