The Paris Motor Show welcomes new manufacturers in 2024

Several brands are due to make their return to the Paris motor show, which will be held at Porte de Versailles from October 14 to 20. It will have 50% additional surface area compared to 2022 and Chinese manufacturers will be particularly well represented there.

The Paris Motor Show will attract many manufacturers in 2024, including those of the Volkswagen group, and promises to be richer than the previous edition, its director Serge Gachot told AFP on Monday June 24.

Several brands will return to the show: Skoda and Audi (Volkswagen group), Mini (BMW), Ford and Kia, specifies Serge Gachot.

The 90th Paris World Cup, scheduled for October 14 to 20 at Porte de Versailles, in the south of Paris, will have 50% more space and plans to attract 500,000 visitors, compared to 400,000 in 2022.

Many Chinese manufacturers

The group with the largest presence during the previous edition, Renault will once again be in majesty with a huge stand notably presenting its electric R5, and others for its Dacia, Alpine and Mobilize brands.

Stellantis will strengthen its presence with, in addition to Peugeot and Citroën, Alfa Romeo and a fourth brand. Cadillac, which is attempting a return to Europe with luxurious electric SUVs, will also be present.

On the Chinese manufacturer side, in the midst of a European offensive and omnipresent in 2022, the giant BYD will be accompanied by Xpeng, Seres, GAC, but also newcomers Forthing (Dongfeng group), Skyworth (subsidiary of an electronics group) and Maxus utilities.

Absence of Toyota and Mercedes

The world leader Toyota, Hyundai and Mercedes are ignoring Paris. Both Tesla and MG have yet to confirm.

Paris is coming back in force while car shows were in decline, even before the Covid pandemic and its numerous cancellations. The Geneva show was scuttled after a failed 2024 edition.

Both the Paris show and the Munich show are trying to refresh their offer to unite visitors around the automobile, singled out for its role in global warming, and attract manufacturers tempted by cost-saving measures.

A “car festival”

If Munich highlights the electric car and mobility in general, the Paris Motor Show claims to be an “automobile festival”, centered “on the automobile and freedom of movement”, underlines Serge Gachot.

And Paris has renewed itself by offering a testing center and making it easier for brands to contact potential customers, according to him.

The show also plans to welcome an important influencer to replace Vilebrequin, a duo at the head of a YouTube channel on automobiles with an offbeat tone, which had helped to rejuvenate the audience of the 2022 show.

Co-produced by the communications giant Hopscotch and the Automobile Platform, which represents manufacturers and equipment suppliers, the Mondial de l’auto also plans to exhibit film cars and major automotive innovations.
