CHRONICLE – The protection of purchasing power has become the alpha and omega of French economic policy.

It’s the same rallying cry in all three blocs, right, left and center: “purchasing power.” A real consensus “to return the money to the French” united them in their conquest of the Palais Bourbon. The RN has made it its number one priority and “wants to lower energy bills and VAT on gas” upon its arrival in Matignon. The New Popular Front proposes a historic increase of 14.4% in the minimum wage. Ensemble, chaperoned by Gabriel Attal, is not left out and promises to bring « the first Macron (no social or tax charges, Editor’s note) from 6,000 to 10,000 euros” per employee.

Let’s move on to the costings of the programs, in hundreds of billions of euros. The estimates are all the more questionable as they do not distinguish public money from the overall impact on the economy. What is the point of measuring magical thinking? Promises only bind those who listen to them.
