In accordance with European agreements, Luxembourg also pays three months of unemployment benefits to its Belgian and German neighbors, when a person domiciled in one of these two countries loses their job in the Grand Duchy. 3.1 million euros were paid to Belgium in 2023, 6.8 million in 2022 and 5.1 million in 2021. Despite the greater number of Belgian cross-border workers, the figures are quite similar for Germany, and even higher in some years. 5.6 million euros were paid by Luxembourg in 2023, 6.3 million euros in 2022 and 5.5 million in 2021.
