Candi raises $38M to provide solar power to South African businesses

The financing of 38 million dollars was mobilized as part of a fundraising led by the Norwegian investor Norfund (20 million dollars), the French STOA Infra & Energy and the Japanese energy company Kyuden International Corporation. The aim of this financial mobilization of Candi Solar is to continue the development of its activities in Africa and Asia.

The Swiss company finances and installs ground- and roof-mounted photovoltaic solar power plants which it then rents to commercial and industrial (C&I) customers. “To accelerate the decarbonization of electricity production, we are convinced of the need to encourage the development, alongside these large capacities, of small renewable electricity production units close to commercial and industrial activities. The solutions developed by Candi democratize access to solar energy for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) »explains Marie-Laure Mazaud, general director of STOA Infra & Energy, which is on her second investment in Candi.

According to the company led by Fabio Eucalipto, the $38 million investment will support the financing of an additional 200 MW of commercial solar projects, “supporting strategic hiring initiatives to support its rapid expansion.” Currently, Candi claims an installed capacity of 112 MW, in India and South Africa.

Within the rainbow nation, the solar energy supplier based in Zurich, Switzerland is present in at least eight provinces. In Gauteng, for example, Candi installed a 135 kWp ground-mounted solar power plant to power the facilities of French energy solutions and automation giant Schneider Electric. In the Northern Cape, Candi produces 1.2 MWp of solar energy for farmer Henbrie Boerdery in Douglas.
