Double surnames will once again be authorized in Switzerland. The National Council decided this Thursday to reverse the 2013 reform which had prohibited this option. If the Council of States approves this choice, freedom will be total in Switzerland: keep a single name, create a double name, choose the surname that comes first, add a hyphen. The only restriction concerns the triple name, banned.

Here are the options that will be available to citizens: if Mr. Bertrand marries Mrs. Maunoir, the couple will have the choice of being called Bertrand, Maunoir, Bertrand-Maunoir or Maunoir-Bertrand. We will spare you the variant without a hyphen.
