Be careful if you have recently purchased cat food from the “Carrefour EXPERT +” brand: these are likely to be contaminated with salmonella. Since Monday June 3, 2024, the authorities have been recalling a lot sold throughout France between December 22, 2023 and Friday May 31, 2024, reports Rappel Conso.

Consult a veterinarian

In detail, this massive recall concerns the “EXPERT + Sterilized cat – Croquettes rich in chicken 1.5 kg” cat food belonging to lot C2312150053 (GTIN code: 3560070926787). The minimum durability date for this product sold by Carrefour is December 15, 2024.

People who have purchased these kibbles are invited to destroy them or return them to the store to obtain a refund before July 31, the date on which the recall will end. Under no circumstances should customers continue to feed this food to their cat. “If the animal having consumed this product presents symptoms, it is recommended to consult a veterinarian and report this consumption”specifies the government website.

Risk of food infection

As a reminder, salmonella can cause food infections resulting in “by gastrointestinal disorders (diarrhea, vomiting) of sudden onset often accompanied by fever and headache. These symptoms generally occur 6 hours to 72 hours after consuming the contaminated products”, indicates Conso Recall. Symptoms may be more pronounced “in young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised subjects and the elderly”.

A telephone number has been set up by Carrefour’s consumer service to answer any questions customers may have: it is 08 05 90 00 23. This service is available Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. “If there are no symptoms within seven days after consuming the kibble, there is no need to worry and consult a veterinarian”specify the authorities.
