For Vaud National Councilor Brenda Tuosto, “the recent decisions of Federal Councilor Albert Rösti must be stopped, because they go against the vote on the CO2 law.” This Monday, the socialist sent a letter to the management commissions. With her Zurich colleague Min Li Marti, and legal advice in support, she is appealing against the freezing of funding for night trains, proposed by the government among other savings measures. Formally, it is a denunciation to the supervisory authority. Copies have been sent to the Federal Council and the Federal Office for the Environment.

On September 20, the government presented its federal finance relief program, intended to save 3.6 billion francs from 2027. Among the various measures proposed by a group of experts, the Federal Council chose to retain the abandonment of the encouragement of cross-border rail passenger transport. The subsidization of night trains is, however, included in the new CO2 law, passed in June 2023. Welcomed by part of the right, which recalls that these trains are not profitable and which considers it wise to renounce credits which have not been undertaken, this measure arouses the anger of the left and causes a lot of noise. Parliament will still have to decide on it.
