“248 employees will have to leave the company voluntarily or by force on January 24, 2025 at the latest,” communicated the CGT.

The announcement, made Friday to staff representatives, is “a sledgehammer yesterday before putting us on forced leave next week for some”, lamented the union, warning that the job cuts would affect “almost all sectors of the the factory.”

At the end of September, the site’s employees demonstrated in , with the CGT-CFDT inter-union organization emphasizing on the occasion that their average age was 52 years old.

Dumarey Powerglide, which belongs to the Belgian Dumarey group (formerly Punch), produces components and gearboxes for various automotive suppliers, including the German ZF, itself a supplier to the manufacturer BMW.

The Strasbourg company, which currently employs 584 people, was still producing 1,550 gearboxes per day for ZF a few weeks ago, intended for thermal vehicles.

But the ZF company announced the end of its gearbox orders, as of August 30, causing the site to lose 85% of its turnover according to the inter-union association. The company announced in September the establishment of a guarantee fund of 60 million euros to support the social plan.
