Automotive supplier Dumarey Powerglide announces the elimination of 240 positions in Strasbourg: News

The equipment manufacturer Dumarey Powerglide, which notably manufactures gearboxes, announced that it would cut 248 jobs in its company, reports BFMTV. At the end of August, the company recorded an 85% drop in turnover after orders from the German company ZF stopped.

New blow in the industrial sector. Automotive equipment manufacturer Dumarey Powerglide is preparing to cut 248 jobs in its factory located in Strasbourg, reports BFMTV which relays information from the CGT. “248 employees will have to leave the company voluntarily or forcibly by January 24, 2025 at the latest“, the union told the employees.

The announcement, made to staff representatives on Friday October 4, is a new “sledgehammer“, explained the CGT which specifies that “all areas of the factory” are affected by these deletions.

40% of the company concerned

According to Laurent Julien, CFDT secretary of the company specializing in the manufacture of gearboxes, the salary plan concerns 40% of the company’s total workforce. Concerning these job cuts, those working in production, assembly, or “method-maintenance” are particularly targeted. As for those within management, no position is affected, specifies the unionist.

It is the most precarious, the least trained who pay the price. These are people who are generally between 55 and 60 years old“, explained Laurent Julien on 3 Région. He particularly fears a difficult return.”on the job market” for the latter.

At the end of September, employees of the Strasbourg site, which currently has 584 people, demonstrated alongside the CGT-CFDT inter-union association. Dumarey Powerglide, which belongs to the Belgian Dumarey group, saw its turnover drop by 85% at the end of August, after the German company ZF, for which 1,550 gearboxes were produced each day, announced the end of its orders.
