A victory with a particular flavor since the forty-year-old is terminally ill after battling cancer for eight years. “How am I going to have time to spend all this money? How long will I live?” he declared during a press conference, according to comments reported by Associated Press.
One-off payment of nearly 400 million euros
Despite this, the winner intends to make the most of his new fortune: “I will be able to provide for my family and my health… I’ll find myself a good doctor.”he assures, he who also plans to share part of the jackpot with a friend who helped him buy the winning ticket.
Cheng and his wife chose a payment in one go rather than payment spread over 30 years. They therefore pocketed 422 million dollars after taxes, or a little more than 395 million euros.
