The new Dacia Duster is attractive and rather complete in terms of engines © Dacia

In the launch phase, the new Dacia Duster is available in several versions and covers a very wide audience. Each engine has its advantages and disadvantages depending on how you use it.

For many journalists who were able to take it in hand and try it, the new Dacia Duster could well be a new hit. He who has sold more than 2.4 million copies since his debut in the 2000s has pulled out all the stops: muscular and assertive look, technological content to match and wide choice of engines. The Duster goes upmarket and it Several “trends” are already emerging in the choices to be made depending on the uses that customers will make of them. While waiting for all our measurements (which we will carry out on all the mechanics), we can already draw some lessons about the forces present. Which 2024 Duster should you choose if you’re ready to take the plunge? Let’s take a look at the owner.

New Duster 2024: I will use it off-road

The good news is that the new Dacia Duster is once again available off-road. The bad news is that he is switching from diesel to gasoline with what that implies in terms of consumption, which will inevitably increase in the “offroad” phase. The Duster 4×4 is now associated with a 130 hp 1.2 turbo three-cylinder. It replaces the 150 hp 1.3 four-cylinder which fitted wonderfully the previous generation. If you need a workhorse capable of handling mud and some abuse, this Duster is the one you should turn to. And finally, another advantage of this Duster 4×4: the multi-link rear axle (obligatory to make room for the differential and universal joints) which often provides better comfort and superior handling.

In this case, there should be no possible hesitation: you will have to opt for the Duster hybrid with its 140 hp electrified four-cylinder. Consumption should remain, as on the Captur, measured in all circumstances outside of the highway and very mountainous routes which often displease low-power “full hybrids”. At the time of writing, the hybrid range starts at €28,100 on the two highest finishing levels. But another cheaper version on the Expression finish will arrive and will lower the price to a particularly competitive level for a family SUV.

Avoid the LPG Duster unless you have easy access to an LPG pump© Dacia

On paper, you would be tempted for the 100 hp Eco-G which allows you to benefit from LPG/petrol dual fueling. But be careful: its consumption is high and its CO2 emissions earn it a penalty of up to €1,761. Including this penalty, the turnkey price of the Duster Eco-G is closer to the much faster and more pleasant 130 hp TCE version, both being in manual gearbox anyway. And since the Duster TCE 130 hp is approved at lower consumption values, it will be cheaper to use and barely more expensive to purchase than the LPG variant which will therefore only be of interest if you can drive very often at LPG. In other words, having access to a pump near you. Otherwise, we already advise you to turn to the Duster TCE 130 4×2, or to take the cheapest Duster possible in LPG, without touch screen and with metal rims.

  • Duster TCE 130 hp 4×2 price: from €24,900
  • Duster Eco-G 100 price: from €19,690
