Mines, here is the location and capacities of the new gold deposit discovered in Ivory Coast

In the mining sector in Ivory Coast, a discovery has just been made. Experts announce they have found a large deposit of gold.

The discovered gold deposit is of great capacity. According to the mining group that made the find, this is a world-class deposit.

The places of discovery are Kani in the Worodougou region and Dianra in the neighboring Béré department.

It is considered the largest ever discovered in the country. On the continent, its experts estimate that when it comes into operation, it will be the 3rd largest gold mine in West Africa.

Before it, gold mines located in Burkina Faso and Guinea occupy the first places with respective capacities of 12.3 million tonnes and 12 million tonnes.

The capacities of the new gold deposit discovered in Côte d’Ivoire are estimated at 5 million ounces, or 155.5 tonnes of gold with an average grade of 0.72 grams per tonne. It will produce on average eleven (11) million tonnes of ore per year.

This gold deposit will mobilize an initial investment of 400 billion FCFA, according to the gold company which made the discovery. The mine will enter production in 2027. Operations will last 20 years.

In Ivory Coast, this new discovered gold deposit adds to an ever-growing number in the country. In November 2023, the Minister of Mines, Oil and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly gave some details of the Ivorian mining ecosystem.

According to him, there are 227 active semi-industrial mines and 149 active artisanal mines on the national territory, with a significant increase in these figures in the months and years to come.
