Top Spin 2K25: a highly anticipated return… Here’s what we think of it after testing it!

To say that it was expected is an understatement as Top Spin marked a generation of tennis fans who were only hoping for one thing, a sequel to the excellent Top Spin 3 (released in 2009) and the last in the series. , Top Spin 4, published 13 years ago.

For many players, Top Spin is the undisputed leader in sports simulation. Offering gameplay that is as precise as it is rigorous, the title has always enjoyed incredible popularity… until its disappearance from the market over the last decade. We then thought the saga was dead and buried but that was without counting on 2K and Hangar 13 which, a few weeks ago, pulled a huge surprise out of their hat: Top Spin had been resurrected and was preparing to come back in force on consoles and PC. With such an announcement and extraordinary expectations, suffice to say that the stakes were high for the American publisher, who brilliantly rose to the challenge.

Indeed, we are not going to hide it any longer, Top Spin 2K25 is an excellent game. If it does not achieve perfection, it prides itself on offering particularly well-crafted gameplay which offers a real tennis simulation experience. Based on a clever mix of good player positioning and timing when hitting the ball (be careful, precision is essential!), the game mechanics require time to adapt but guarantee a certain satisfaction when mastered. And by increasing the difficulty, the game offers a real challenge that will annoy even the most die-hard players.

Career mode will keep you busy!

In terms of content, while we obviously find the classic modes (exhibition, local or online multiplayer, tennis academy, etc.), it is especially the career mode that is likely to occupy the majority of your time. Well designed and offering a real feeling of progression (making your player evolve will require long hours of practice), we will nevertheless regret a rather repetitive side which can, in the long term, bore the general public.

If Top Spin 2K25 is a very good tennis game, it is not perfect. The fault lies mainly in graphics which are not up to date but also in a relatively limited roster (players available). In addition, and this has become a trend, the 2K game pushes you to spend money on microtransactions and these, particularly numerous, can be off-putting.

However, Top Spin 2K25 marks a very big return to the video game world. With particularly careful gameplay which is the strength of the title, the saga returns in force and promises for the coming years because it is, once again, not far from perfection.
