In Plabennec, two book boxes aim to facilitate access to reading, self-service, with free access at any time. One, inaugurated in June 2022, is located in the gardens of Espace Louis-Coz. For Angélique Pujade-Le Gall, president of the Around the Words and Events association, at the origin of the project, the objective is “to encourage reading, and also exchange”.

The Cultur'EnVie association is at the origin of the second, inaugurated in January 2023. Located outside the Lac station, near the coach stop, the carpooling area and the play area, its aim is to “facilitate access to culture. Its location should make it possible to appeal to travelers but also to families.”

The operating principle is the same for both since the reader can use it freely. The borrowed book(s) can be returned or placed in another book box. “The main thing is that the travel and be shared,” explains Angélique Pujade-Le Gall.

A selection made every week

To offer readers choice, it is therefore necessary for some to submit “works in good condition and still current,” indicates Jean Le Nir, president of Cultur'EnVie. To complete the offer, we can also collect library books during weeding,” he adds.

It is also thanks to donations that Autour des mots can supply the cabin and makes a selection each week. She organizes an event for each birthday and for the next one, an open reading aloud stage will be organized in June. Projects exist around the station box, which is referenced for “bookcrossing” (or the act of circulating books freely). In particular, it is planned to make travelers aware of this book box and to question users about their practices.
