Essential books of 2025: from the autobiography of a Pope to the return of King, let's celebrate Camilleri and Saviano!

The launch of the first autobiography of a Pope is planned for January. Other works by famous writers will also appear, ranging from Stephen King to Isabelle Allende, including the stories of Strega Prize winners Mario Desiati and Edoardo Albinati, and Fedez's candid testimony in a memoir.

The year 2025 promises to be rich in readings. On the menu, twelve months of literature promising captivating new releases, both in fiction and non-fiction, with nearly 400 publications. As a bonus, Papa Francesco's long-awaited autobiography will be released in January, and readers will be able to discover timeless classics, as well as new talents such as Antonio Abanese. To celebrate Andrea Camilleri's centenary, a collection of 12 books will be specially dedicated to her.

THE SUCCESS OF 2024

New literary releases continue to ride the success of 2024. At the top of sales in Italy, the thriller “An animal selvaggio” by Joël Dicker, followed by the best-seller by Aldo Cazzullo, “Il Dio dei nostri padri”, and the very promising first novel by Francesca Giannone, “La portalettere”. Valérie Perrin also remains at the top of the charts with “Tatà”, her fourth novel which has won over international readers. Tatà, tells the story of Colette and her niece Agnès, engaged in a moving family investigation, testifying to Perrin's talent for weaving complex intrigues over more than 600 pages.

Among the most anticipated titles is “What I know about you”a novel by Nadia Terranova, due out January 14. This Sicilian novelist, finalist for the Strega prize in 2018 with “Addio fantasmi”, offers a family story imbued with mysteries and intergenerational silences. The protagonist is a woman who fears losing her mind, just like her bisnonna Venera, who occupied a special place in her dreams.

Thrill seekers should not miss the latest work by Stephen King “Never Flinch”due in Italy on May 27, 2025. A thriller that follows a killer seeking revenge and a vigilante who opposes a famous women's rights activist, with familiar characters revisited.

May 27 will also mark the great return ofIsabel Allende with “I am Emilia Del Valle”a journey across South America in search of the truth about her father.

For fans of Georges SimenonFebruary has a nice surprise in store with “He big Bob”a story that explores the suicide of a seemingly ordinary man.

The year will also be rich for lovers ofAndrea Camilleriwhose centenary will be celebrated with several initiatives, including a new book series featuring twelve works accompanied by an author's introduction.

“My love does not die” is the last novel of Roberto Savianoexpected in May, which traces the tragic story of Rossella Casini who disappeared in 1981.

In February, we will also find Mario Ten and his novel Malbiancowhich explores the relationships between individuals and their roots.

On March 25, another Strega Prize winner, Edoardo Albinatiwill present “The children of the moment”a reflection on the 80s in Italy through the journeys of two protagonists. Readers can also look forward to two international literary stars: Han Kang et Amélie Nothomb with their respective works, “White paper” et “The impossible return”.

The Israeli writer Eshkol Nevo will be released in January “The symmetry of desires” which chronicles the friendship between four young adults from Tel Aviv, expressing their desires in writing during one memorable night.

Other returns include Teresa Ciabatti and his investigation into Giuseppe Misso, and a fascinating intrigue around the young man post-war, raising questions of identity and heritage.

“The crocodile of Palermo”a new work by Roberto Andòwill be in bookstores from mid-January.

A number of essays deal with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including that of Jean-Pierre Filiu“Why Palestine is lost but Israel has not won – History of a conflict (19th-21st century)”, here examine the cadre historique de ce conflict.

Pankaj Mishra talks about the effects of colonization on contemporary societies in his essay “The world after Gaza”whileAndreas Malm addresses contemporary and ecological issues in “Gaza – A dirty business”.

The philosopher Franco “Bifo” Berardi discusses the realities of war in the Middle East in “Savagery – Thinking after Gaza”.

The journalist and writer Furio Colombo delves into the future of Israel and its relations with Europe in “The end of Israel”.

Next month, Giulio Tremonti will announce its economic thoughts on the future of the EU in “War or peace – The prospects for Italy and Europe”.

In another register, Beppe Severgnini offers a reflection on aging in “Socrates, Agatha and the future – The art of growing old philosophically”.

Finally, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the death of Bettino Craxi, Aldo Cazzullo will deliver his portrait in “Craxi. The last true politician”.
