Rabat – The beautiful book “The Green March, the epic. God, The Homeland, The King”, by political scientist and university professor Mustapha Sehimi, was at the center of a meeting organized Wednesday at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary (MMVI) in Rabat.

This work presents a historical synthesis that is both broad and attentive to the details of the Green March, highlighting the planning prior to this epic which consecrated the territorial integrity of the Nation, as well as the values of piety and pacifism advocated by the participants.

He also reviews the aspects which made this significant event in the history of the Kingdom unique, such as communion and mobilization, legitimacy, shared patriotism, successful organization with exceptional logistics, faith and religious inspiration.

The book brings together unpublished documents, emblematic photos of the passionate atmosphere which accompanied this epic, rare testimonies, both from Moroccan and foreign politicians, as well as from volunteers or anonymous people caught up in the fervor of the event. .

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Sehimi indicated having ensured the writing of half of the texts contained in this “collective work”, which brings together numerous testimonies and contributions, selected, sorted and reproduced with the agreement of the authors, noting thus the methodological difficulty posed at the level of selection in the face of the documentary overabundance.

The author also stressed that this beautiful book adds to the rich historiography of the Green March an essential component, namely the reappropriation of identity, which is illustrated by iconography from different sources.

The Green March marked “a new sequence of a new Morocco”, while “a particular way of life was organized, by regions, by cities and by tribes”, he affirmed, highlighting the emphasis on the scope of this epic on the process of institutionalization and democratization in Morocco.

Welcoming the “symbiosis between the throne and the people” which was established during the Green March, he noted that it is an “unprecedented contribution to methods of conflict resolution” which testifies to the “genius ” of the late HM King Hassan II.
