The first audio book to listen to in Breton!

Kleor is a Breton association which has just published the first audio book in Breton.

The word “Kleor” is a contraction of “Kleved” (to listen) and “Leor” (to book) in Breton.

An innovative linguistic initiative

This association has embarked on an ambitious project: publishing books and podcasts in Breton in order to encourage locals to immerse themselves in this language.

“Ar Vastardez”: the first audiobook

The audiobook chosen for this first experience is “Ar Vastardez” by Yann-Vadezour Lagadeg (The Bastard), published in 1990.

The story follows Ivona, a young woman from St-Méen, a small town in Léon, who gives birth to a child out of wedlock. To survive in the interwar context of Léon, between Catholic rigor and narrow-mindedness, she will have to fight for her daughter.

100% Breton production

The book is an entirely Breton production, recorded in a studio in . The book requires a little over 6 hours of listening, but can also be listened to in episodes. It is available for free on streaming platforms.

An initiative to be welcomed

We can only welcome such an initiative which aims to develop audio and preserve this linguistic heritage. To listen, click here
