New storm warning for Flunch restaurants. Three years after the announcement of a wave of 57 closures, the brand is studying the possibility of further cessations of activity. A social and economic committee was convened this Wednesday and Thursday. Management will present its project to staff representatives.
“For the moment, nothing has been decided, nothing has been defined,” said a union Source. “The company simply considers it necessary to study other closures, in addition to those decided in 2021. This is not necessarily encouraging, but we are only at the very beginning of a process.” Several sites are affected in Île-de-France. Among them, the restaurant in Buchelay (Yvelines), near Mantes-la-Jolie.
Fierce competition
Employees were informed of this a few days ago and there is now concern among the staff. For the moment, no date has been communicated on this cessation. “And this is normal because we are only at the beginning of the negotiations. Things can still change and if this happens, we will have to start discussions with the social partners,” specifies the same Source.
Located in the aisles of the Aushopping shopping center, the Flunch restaurant in Buchelay has existed for decades. It is backed by the Auchan hypermarket, which opened in the late 1970s, and on which it is dependent. However, both brands are suffering from fierce competition from other stores such as hard discounters or the neighboring HMarket supermarket as well as low-cost restaurants, the number of which has increased in recent years in the Mantes region.
