A family drama caused a stir in Nemours, in Seine-et-Marne.

On the afternoon of Monday, September 16, 2024, passers-by were intrigued by the cries of a baby alone in his stroller, near the playground overlooking the Loing, a few meters from the banks. They then saw two inanimate bodiesthat ofa child and ofa womanfloating in the water.

The firefighters were immediately alerted and intervened shortly before 3 p.m. They pulled the two victims out of the water who were near the bank and performed two long cardiac massageswhich allowed them to be resuscitated initially. Divers also intervened to conduct a reconnaissance of the scene, to ensure that no other person was in the river. In total, around twenty firefighters were mobilized. The rescue operation was lifted around 5 p.m. During the intervention, the Champ-de-Mars district had been closed to traffic.

Death in hospital

The girl, aged 3 and a half, was evacuated by helicopter in Kremlin-Bicêtre, in Val-de-Marne. Her mother, aged around thirty, was taken by road to the hospital in Fontainebleau, in a very unstable condition. Unfortunately, they did not survive and are deceased during their hospitalization.

“An investigation was initially opened to identify the victims who did not have their identity papers on them, and also to investigate the causes of the serious injuries. To date, we are now investigating the causes of death by examining the bodies,” said Fontainebleau prosecutor Arnaud Faugère, contacted by The Republic of Seine-et-Marne. We do not know at this time what happened. Anything is possible but the criminal theory is the least favoured. The investigation has been entrusted to the Fontainebleau-Nemours police station.

According to our information, the family, of Somali origin, consisted of the parents and their three children. They were hosted in Nemours by France FraternitiesThe little girl was educated at kindergarten Aujard. The national education system has set up a listening cell for adults which could be extended to children if they felt the need.
