Iran rejected any link on Monday with the missile strike led the day before by the Houthis at Ben-Gourion airport in Israel.
In a statement, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the accusations linking Tehran to this attack on “lack of respect for a proud and oppressed nation”.
According to the text, these affirmations “represent a deliberate distortion aimed at diverting the attention of Israeli crimes in Palestine, concealing strategic failures and creating pretexts for increased detection in the Western Asian region”.
The ministry also stressed that “it is the American army, in support of the genocidal campaign of the Zionist regime (Israel), which has embarked on a direct conflict with the Yemeni people, by committing war crimes by targeting civil infrastructure and non -military objectives in several cities of Yemen”.
Iran denounced the American air strikes against Yemen as “blatant violations of the Charter of the United Nations and fundamental principles of international law”.
Tehran believes that the genocidal war waged by Israel in Palestine is the main cause of generalized instability throughout the region.
The ministry also condemned the threats made by the United States and Israel against Iran, holding the two countries “for responsible for the consequences and repercussions of these actions”.
For their part, the Houthis qualified their missile strike at Ben-Gourion airport as “warning” addressed to international airlines, saying that Israeli airport is “not sure for civil aviation”.
Following this attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu threatened to retaliate militarily against Yemen and Iran.
-“The (American) president Donald Trump is completely right! The attacks of the Houthis emanate from Iran. Israel will respond to the attack on our main airport and, at the time and at the place of our choice, to their Iranian masters of terrorism,” he said on an emergency meeting.
Although the Houthis have already claimed several ballistic missile shots against Ben-Gourion airport, it is the first time on Sunday that a missile has laid down near the main terminal.
According to the Israeli channel Channel 13, several international companies, including Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Air India, Ita Airways and Air Europa, canceled their Sunday flights to Tel Aviv.
Since mid-March, Yemen has been targeted by an intensified American military campaign, with approximately 1,300 air and naval strikes, which have caused hundreds of civilian victims, according to the Houthi group.
Since November 2023, the Houthis have targeted ships crossing the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, the Strait of Bab El-Mandeb and the Gulf of Aden, in support of the Palestinian population of Gaza, where more than 52,500 people were killed in more than 19 months of Israeli offensive, mostly women and children.
The group had suspended its attacks after the truce announced in January between Israel and Hamas, but resumed them following the renewal of Israeli strikes on Gaza in March.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest mandates against Netanyahu and its former Yoav Gallant Minister in November, for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
At the same time, Israel is the subject of a procedure for genocide before the International Court of Justice (CIJ) in connection with his war against the Palestinian enclave.
