Trafalgar Square welcomes its very first basketball competition

Trafalgar Square is not only famous worldwide for its position in the center of the city and the eventful history of the Nelson column, but it also hosts many events each year. Whether food or commemorations of religious festivals, something is happening on weekends in London.

However, Trafalgar Square has never welcomed basketball competitionbut that will this summer. Next month, three land will be installed in the square to welcome the final of the NBA 3V3 .

Schoolchildren from all over the capital will participate in the basketball competition ever organized in Trafalgar Square, with a view of the National Gallery and the Nelson column to encourage them. The finalists will come from ten schools in the city, and three wheelchair basketball clubs will also participate in competition, with teams of boys, girls and mixed categories that have all qualified for the final among 315 teams.

The schools have registered earlier in the year for the matches that will start in January, the event being to hundreds of schools as part of a flagship project aimed at developing basketball among people, set up by the organizers of the London marathon in collaboration with the NBA. A number of from the city’s primary schools will also be invited to participate in training sessions on one of the events of the event.

The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who supports the event, said: “I am proud to support this innovative collaboration between the London Marathon Events and the NBA, which, I hope, will encourage more young people to play basketball in the schools of the capital. The competition is based on the of the working group on basketball that I created to develop the game and create positive opportunities for young people, while we work together to build a better London for everyone. ”

The NBA Junior 3V3 competition will take place on June 6 at Trafalgar Square.
