Macky and the “Others”: assumed opening against obsessive closure
This May 6, 2025 in Berlin, after the “others” had finished counting handshakes at Léon Mba (Libreville Airport), Macky Sall, he spoke to the world. The former president of Senegal delivered a discourse of rare clarity to the Global Solutions Summit. Theme: “Africa in contemporary multilateralism”.
Reading note of a discourse … and comparison with the action of “others”:
1. Macky wants to rebalance multilateralism, not throw it out in nettles. He denounces the limits, but believes in cooperation, solidarity, inclusion. Meanwhile, the “others” prefer to wave the fold of withdrawal, shout at interference as soon as a foreign voice dares to denounce their manipulations, paradoxically align themselves with the positions coming from their few rare “small” disruptive “alter-worlds of the caliber of the young French lawyer and old melanchon, and to believe that to win the game
2. Macky lies out, pleads for just partnerships, reformed international governance, climate justice. Meanwhile, the “others” turn their backs, close their ears, slam the door; They see in each embassy a threat, in each foreign journalist a double agent, and in each international trip or an audience granted to a foreign personality (case of Tony Blair) a betrayal of the fatherland, the project, and the “African” party. Instead of Berlin, they prefer the great theater, asking Israel to “stop”, when the real courage would have been to relay the constant call of Macky Sall for a reform of the United Nations system.
3. Macky dialogues with the world and offers fair rules, while others want to play without rules. Their dream? Break the system table … for lack of learning to play it. They brandish abstract sovereignty, forgetting that no nation wins alone, and that autarky has never taken off a country.
4. Macky is Africa that discusses, who offers, that builds. The “Others” are Africa that groans, sulks, who locks himself up. An anxious Africa, on the defensive, in perpetual quest for an external enemy to hide its inner vacuum.
So yes, with Macky, Senegal shone on the international scene. Today, he shaves the walls. The voice of the country brought in the global forums; It is now going out in populist litanies. The country attracted investors; He scares them away. He was building alliances; He collects ruptures.
And while we justify the diplomatic immobility of the “others” by the revocations by the “project” of the “international tours“ useless ”, we lose ourselves in overflowing crowds between Ouaga, Nouakchott, Abidjan, Banjul and Bissau, as if tightening African-African hands made Africa speak and could compensate for the lack of vision. Africa does not need regional fairings. She needs leaders who speak to the whole world, negotiate the future of humanity and influence international opinions …
The size of a country is not measured by its ability to sulk, but to its ability to exist in the world without dissolving. Macky Sall understood this. “Others”, not yet. At this rate, they will have to send them a postcard… of the real world….
Good Mardi live Barça….
