This municipality in Seine-et-Marne launches its first participatory budget

The participatory budgetdo you know? This is a process put in place by the municipality allowinginvolve citizens in carrying out municipal projects. In a few words, the city provides residents with an envelope intended to finance one or more projects carried out by citizens.

This is precisely what the municipality of Chevry-Cossigny intends to do (Seine-et-Marne). From January 18, 2025the city will open a participatory budget session. “This is a system open to residents of Chevry-Cossigny aged 16 and over,” confirms the City. Projects can be submitted individually or in groups, but each participant can only submit or participate in one project.

An envelope of 10,000 euros

Thus, the Chevriards will be able to submit their ideas from January 18, 2025. The project must meet different criteria. It must be beneficial for allbe part of a sustainable development of the city, fall within municipal powers and relate to durable goods, such as constructions, renovations and long-lasting equipment.

La phase submission of projects will extend from January 18 to March 31. The next step will be devoted to examining the files. “They will be examined by a pre-selection committee including members of the 'services to the population' commission, municipal agents, as well as representatives of the council of elders and municipal youth council”, certifies the municipality, which will then put to the vote files held for one month, from May 19 to June 20. During this stage, the Chevriards will therefore be able to express their preference.

The results will be announced on June 21. “The selected projects will be integrated into the annual municipal budget, depending on the funds available,” assures the City, which explains having reserved an envelope of 10,000 euros for this purpose. The projects should be completed during the second half of the year.
