the essential
Photographer Maurice Cuquel immortalizes the links between man and nature in a captivating exhibition.
Originally from Lot, Maurice Cuquel is a sensitive and humanist artist. Photographer, reporter and teacher, this 68-year-old enthusiast travels the world to capture the essence of the places and individuals he meets.
Thanks to film photography, the photographer offers the general public a living testimony of our time. With the heart of an artist and the eye of an anthropologist, Maurice Cuquel presents, during his exhibitions, black and white photos that transcend reality and invite us to deep reflection.
“A Song of Garonne”
In “Un Chant de Garonne”, an exhibition presented at the Castelsarrasin media library, from today Saturday January 4 to Saturday January 25, the artist casts his gaze on the river which rocks his daily life since he settled on the heights from Lot-et-Garonne: the Garonne.
In 2021, forced to stay at home, the photographer rediscovers the richness of his own environment. On the Lot-et-Garonne banks of this emblematic river, he sets out to meet those of the river. He observes, listens and captures the story of all those who live in harmony with it, thus revealing the close ties that unite them to their environment.
From peaceful contemplation to frenetic action, from wild beauty to the scars of time, the exhibition offers a complete panorama of the river. Through his photographs, Maurice Cuquel reminds us that this river is much more than a simple watercourse, it is a living space, a witness to the past, an essential element of our heritage, but also an actor in our future.
