Until July 1, 2024, the Centre Pompidou welcomes a retrospective of an unprecedented nature – the last having taken place in 1955 – dedicated to Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957), pioneer of contemporary sculpture. Through more than 120 sculptures and an identical reconstruction of part of the workshop of the artist, the centerpiece of the exhibition, visitors have the opportunity to delve into the raw and delicate work of Brancusi.

Brancusi, art has only just begun

By exhibiting among multiple works of the sculptures, photographs, drawings and filmsthe retrospective offers the opportunity to explore the full range of techniques of this prolific artist, considered the inventor of modern sculpture. The exhibition provides the opportunity to discover the themes that punctuate his career, as well as his most iconic works.

The Sleeping Muse, The kiss (version which is intended to be different from that of Rodin with whom the artist learned), The Wisdom of the Earth, Prayer, Ledathe very controversial Princessor even the Endless column. His unique work with wood, plaster, bronze and his absolutely personal technique of direct size stone form in the artist a universal language.

A unique place of creation

A place of life and creation, the artist’s studio, a true jewel of the collection of the National Museum of Modern Art, forms the matrix of this project. As part of the exhibition, it was reconstructed identically, so as to reproduce its luminous atmosphere and to showcase its sculptures by creating a dialogue between the works and this environment dedicated to transcending them.

Don’t miss the unique opportunity to discover this immense 20th century artist in a new light!
