The Puerto Rican artist, co-author of the hit Dance Kuduro, announced that he had cancer. He underwent surgery on Tuesday, June 19, at a hospital in Orlando, Florida.

Reggaeton star Don Omar has revealed he has cancer. The Puerto Rican artist to whom we owe the hit Dance Kuduro announced the news in a message on Instagram on Monday June 18.

“Today yes, but tomorrow I will no longer have cancer. Good intentions are welcome. See you soon,” he wrote in Spanish in the caption of his Instagram photo.

The 46-year-old singer is currently under the care of a hospital in Orlando, Florida. Although he did not give details on the type of cancer he has or the treatments he is receiving, Don Omar nevertheless clarified, in a second message on Instagram on Tuesday June 19, that he had undergone surgery and was to “wake up without cancer”.

“Thank you for your wishes, your prayers and your thousands of messages. My operation was a success and it is time for me to recover,” he continued.

“King of reggaeton”

Considered by many fans and critics as the “king of reggaeton”, Don Omar, whose real name is William Omar Landrón Rivera, contributed to the popularization of the musical genre around the world, notably thanks to the success of his first album. The Last Donreleased in 2003, carried by the tubes Dile Or Dale Don Dale.

The artist is also the author of the hit Dance Kuduro, in collaboration with Lucenzo, released in 2010 and received 13 nominations at the Latin Grammy Awards. In addition to music, Don Omar has also distinguished himself as an actor, notably in the saga Fast and Furious where he plays the character of Rico Santos.

Currently on tour to celebrate his 25 years of career, the singer is due to perform in the United States this summer with nearly twenty shows planned between August 7 and September 15, 2024.
