This crisis would have resulted in geographical distance, Victoria favoring London for her professional activity while David settled more and more in Miami, in Florida, for its football club. The book describes communication reduced to a minimum between the two stars and a deleterious atmosphere. Things even got to the point where their respective press officers took the opportunity to engage in a war for influence in the media, distilling negative information onto each other. An episode recounted in the book is particularly revealing. Victoria would have publicly denied rumors of her husband’s infidelity, which would have angered David, convinced that it was a set-up orchestrated by his wife to improve his image. For her part, Victoria would have been hurt and furious by an interview with David where he qualified their marriage of “hard work“. Hurt by this frankness, she would have taken refuge in a spa in Germany to recover from her emotions.
