Between his personal account “Simon Porte Jacquemus” and his professional account with the name of his brand: “Jacquemus”, the young designer wants to remain in control of his movements. “It’s only me who has the codes for both personal and professional accounts. He publishes “so that young people have role models”

Since he made public some photos of his sumptuous wedding, he has regularly been the target of homophobic attacks. It was August 27, 2022 in Charleval, in Bouches-du-Rhône. Simon Porte Jacquemus and Marco Maestri said yes to each other forever, kissing among their loved ones.

This love, making it public is a necessity for him: “It was really a mission to post these photos, I was 32 when I got married. The collective imagination is full of images of princely or star weddings, but until now I had no reference to gay marriage in mind, except perhaps that of Elton John… Moreover, I received thousands of messages from young people, in the provinces and around the world, who said to me: “Thank you!”

“I’m losing tens of thousands of followers”

His relationship with social networks is not naive, Simon Porte Jacquemus knows that he will not be able to change the surface of the world. Its objective is not so much to silence the “haters” or make them change their views. It is rather to support and make stronger those who do not yet have the courage: “Since I was 15, I have never hidden my homosexuality, but I grew up in a generation where no personality was openly. »

Lucid, he says he has acquired a certain distance over time: “Every time I post images of a tender gesture with my husband, I lose tens of thousands of followers. I have created a shell for myself over the years. There are “haters” but that doesn’t affect me anymore. If I continue to post and campaign, it is no longer for me, but so that young people have role models. The fight is far from over. »
